Macquarie University

Bachelor of Commerce (Professional Accounting)

Hi, I am Cynthia and I have graduated from Macquarie University in 2014. During the two years studying in Australia, I have benefited a lot from both academic knowledge and self-development.

The reason why I choose accounting as my major subject studying in university is that I am interested in business field and I would like to be an accountant in the future. As for me, accounting is a challenging and meaningful subject which is not only focusing on calculation for company’s financial performance and position but also learning how a professional accountant performs their role in different areas within or outside the organization to support various interested parties for their related field of decision making. During the study in Australia, I have conducted a number of projects with my classmates on contemporary business issues research. This has improved my communication and co-operations skills through working with different groupmates from other countries. In addition, it has inspired me to critically think in a board way and established a solid foundation of accounting knowledge for developing my career path in the future.

On the other hand, studying overseas has also enhanced my personal development to be mature. Remember when I first arrived there alone, I felt very depressed as my family and friends didn’t get along with me. I had to do everything by myself such as washing clothes, cleaning, cooking and got everything well prepared for my first day going to university. The lifestyle in Australia is totally different from that in Hong Kong and I found it difficult in adapting myself in the new environment in the first place. For example, there is a long distance between my home and university and I had to spend around two hours on travelling university and go back home every day. Also, the weather is extremely dry and hot there and I got a heavy cold and flu. However, I have gained from this tough experience as I have learnt to be independent and take care of myself without my family. Also, I have met some friends and shared our feelings in our life as well as studying. Therefore, it is the most previous experience and moment for studying in Australia in my life.

Now, I have come back to Hong Kong and continued developing my career path in the accounting field. The degree that accomplished in Macquarie University has established a pathway for me to take the CPA Australia examination and obtained a qualification be a professional accountant in the future.

Finally, I would like to thank you AAC especially their academic consultant Joshua Tang for his kindly support and assistance for providing detailed advice on the related matters studying overseas. Even when I got to Australia, he also provides continual support and follow-up on the problem that I had come across. Studying overseas enable me to broaden my horizon and it would be a great opportunity for developing your self-discipline on both academic and personality.

Thank you.
