Bachelor of Applied Science and Master of Physiotherapy Practice

Hello, this is Erica. My life has changed after finishing secondary 4 education in Hong Kong. I had been longing to study overseas and explore different cultures from different countries. I’d say I’m really the lucky one to join a 10-months length exchange programme to the United States in 2016-2017. After this, my family decided to send over to Australia for further study. I completed a foundation course at La Trobe Melbourne and met the requirement that allowed me to proceed to Bachelor of Applied Science and Master of Physiotherapy Practice at La Trobe University (Melbourne).

After exploring two different cultures, I found numerous differences between the US and Australia in different aspects. First of all, the population where I went for exchange was much fewer than those in Melbourne. As I lived in a small town of the state of Oregon, where there are only population of around 10000, and most of them are Americans. I could barely see an Asian around the town. However, it is much more populated in Melbourne and Asian faces are just everywhere. People from Asian countries, such as China, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, India, etc.To be honest, it feels more comfortable to see and be in a group of Asian people which I find it easier to communicate with people and to make friends. It might be because of the cultural similarities and differences that make most of us feel this way. Asians are more reserved and introverted, while Americans and Australians are open and extroverted.

Secondly, I would like to talk about my life I studied in La Trobe Melbourne. In my opinion, it is a great pathway for students to enter their ideal university discipline in La Trobe University through studying in La Trobe Melbourne. I studied health science stream of the foundation course, which there are four subjects per semester and they are Academic Communication (English language skills), Maths, Chemistry and Biology (Physic is available). The foundation course curriculum is similar to those in Hong Kong’s high school. Moreover, teachers here are so considerate and patient. They understand the difficulties that international students face and willing to instruct clearly to us when we have any question. There are also quizzes and tests in every subject to ensure students study throughout the semester and be prepared for exams. I often like this quizzes and tests which motivate me to do my revision daily as it progresses.

The most significant thing overall of this, I would said that it is the courage to enquire and understand the knowledge thoroughly. It is important to make sure yourself comprehend the knowledge that are taught in order to do well in classes and exams which get you to your ideal university course.
