After I finished my secondary school and the HKDSE, I planned to study aboard and I chose to study Foundation (Science and Engineering) in the Sheffield International College as I found the learning environment and educational system in the UK are the most suitable for me.
Before I went to the UK to study aboard, I was very worried as there were many things needed to be handled by myself. However, I found that I no need to worry a lot when I arrived.
For studying in the UK, I think that it is more relax than in HK as there were fewer assessments but the requirements for each assessment were strict. This system is quite good as I can focus on specific assessment and did it as well as I could. Also, I felt less stressful to study in the UK as the dates of exams and the contents of lessons were arranged systematically which is different from HK as there may be two to three chapters per lesson in HK and I found that it was so hard to follow. As the dates of exams were set so I can arrange the timetable which was suitable to me. The teachers are also welcome students to ask them questions and I found this was very useful as there was one tutorial per week per module and I can ask questions so that I can understand the contents throughout.
For staying in the UK, I found that it is quite convenient to find supermarket around the accommodation and the city centre. Also, there are many Chinese supermarkets around the city so I think that it wasn’t hard to buy product for daily use.
Finally, I strongly recommended studying a Foundation year in the UK as you can explore the environment around the campus and you can learn many useful academic skills in the Foundation year, such as how to write good lab reports which will less focus in the university. I sure you will enjoy to study in the UK as the learning environment and the city environment is much more relax!
