Bachelor of Design (Interior Design)

As a student studying interior design, communication is very important for us to express our ideas, and inspirations to others. This is the same when we deal with our problems, I have learnt that keeping silent will not solve my problems; instead it only blocks the link between yourself and others. As an international student, I understand it may be difficult to speak and understand English, especially when it’s not your first language. However, all you have to do is try to speak out what you want to say bravely, it just takes time to build up your confidence.

Actually, lecturers and tutors are always glad to discuss with international students, from my experiences at RMIT, they understand we may have problems in our studies but when we don’t tell them our problems, it makes it difficult for both ourselves and the tutors to solve these problems. Even if our English may not be perfect at times, they still try to understand and help us. My tutors and lecturers tell me how great it is to see how I can overcome my lack of confidence in using English in my presentations and being able to express my design ideas and concepts.

RMIT provides a very wide range of facilities for their students, from computer rooms that are open all hours 24/7 to model making workshops (laser cutting, 3D printing etc.). As a design student, this is very important for students to be able to access these resources at all times. It is a great opportunity to learn and use the many different kinds of equipment and tools in expanding my knowledge and skills in design and model making.
