Leaving your friends, moving to a brand new country, relying on yourself, and adjusting and adapting to the surroundings and its culture are definitely hard. However, being grateful, especially for what I own and experience in the present, instead of dwelling in the past is certainly one of things that I’ve learnt during my stay in Melbourne.

As an introvert, I was concerned about meeting new friends before going to Melbourne. Yet, I got tons of support from Joshua, my old friends, and my family. This doesn’t only help me to open up myself to others but also allows me to reflect and realize that even though I’m miles away from my dearest ones, I’m not alone — all the others around you will offer you a helping hand, even in a foreign country. In addition, this thought also encourages to be more courageous when facing challenges and to meet more friends, so we can rely on each other whenever necessary.

It’s always been a challenge for me to study subjects that I’m not too familiar with. For instance, E&D (Environment and Development) was one of my electives in Trinity College. As it involves Geography, a subject which I only studied for a year in Secondary, I was worried about my performance in the first few months of study. Luckily, the lectures were all very supportive and approachable. Not did do they answer my questions patiently but they also provided extra assistance whenever required.

Despite from the unpredictable weather, Melbourne is definitely a great place to stay and study in. The citizens are relatively modest, friendly and helpful; some will even bring you to your designated location if you’re lost! The slow -paced life also allows everyone to relax and enjoy the beautiful sceneries, and not to mention the diversified cuisines you’ll be able to find! Even though I did experience homesickness for a few times in the past 8 months, I’m seriously thankful to have the opportunity to study abroad as it makes me to cherish the things I have, while looking forward to enjoying more during my future years in Melbourne.
