Hi everyone, my name is Winkie Chow. I graduated in STCC in 2017 and decided to go overseas to study university in Australia – Gold Coast.
I chose to study Hotel and Tourism degree over a 2- year period, and I do really enjoy the “slow life” and I have experienced a lot.
When I came here the first month, I felt like I am lost as the transport system is totally different than my home and any other big cities. Not knowing anyone or the local people. However, everything takes time to change. My university life is great as I have made friends from all over the world, from many different cultures and backgrounds.
The nature and the landscape is very gorgeous, they have everything here form the beaches through to the national rainforests and waterfalls to view. I recently seen many Kangaroos.
I really enjoy the lifestyle here and the school life is very relaxed. I have also found that I’ve become more matured as an independent Adult and am having great new experiences all the time. For example, I’ve found that cooking new dishes is a great thing to do in my spare time (making soup my favorite).
Last year I did some work experience, an Internship at a resort called ‘Royal Pines’ Ashmore Gold Coast. This is a 5 -star resort and is world renowned for international golf. I was working as a trainee chef, housekeeper, food and beverage and some bar work. I really appreciated this experience and learnt a lot of new skills in such a short time.
Overall, I recommend Australia as a great place to study because there is beautiful weather and nice atmosphere.
